Need a Home from Home?

Barry and his teenage son Robin live 162 miles away from the hospital, where Robin needs ongoing radiotherapy.

The travelling is exhausting and accommodation is expensive. Along with other families Barry and Robin arrange to stay free of charge at a nearby CLIC Sargent Home from Home.

"Robin needs treatment five times a week for six weeks at a time. Staying for free right next to the hospital takes away the strain and expense of travelling. Robin can rest and relax in between treatments, and I’ve learned a lot just by chatting with the other parents and staff here."

CLIC Sargent Homes from Home

Following the shock of a cancer diagnosis, getting specialist treatment is the overriding concern. Yet this can take families miles away from home, adding to the stress and strains of the situation.

Stay close by – for free

Our Homes from Home offer families free self-catering accommodation close to paediatric oncology centres. If they are well enough, the child can stay there too. The atmosphere is relaxed and non-clinical, friendly and welcoming.

What facilities are there at a Home from Home?

Bedrooms (with fresh linen) of varying sizes with different numbers of beds. Some rooms are en-suite, others may share a bathroom with one other family.

Most homes have more than one kitchen, a number of washing machines, tumble driers and irons. They also have comfortable sitting rooms with TVs, books and games, indoor and outdoor play areas.

Can family and friends visit the Home from Home?

Grandparents, siblings and friends are welcome just like at home. We do ask that, if a guest stays, there must be a spare bed available for them in the family's room.

How do families arrange to stay in a Home from Home?
