The CLIC Sargent Peru Trek gave our trekkers the opportunity to discover the best trekking terrain in the world due to its striking beauty, ancient Inca ruins and diverse ecological zones. Their ultimate destination was Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas with stunning scenery that none of the trekkers will ever forget.

Jean, a grandmother from Essex signed up to trek the Inca Trail on the CLIC Sargent Peru Challenge 2005 in September. Jean said, "I chose to take up this challenge for CLIC Sargent in memory of my beloved granddaughter Lydia, who died from Acute Myloid Leukaemia at the age of ten. I am consoled in my grief to know that in some small way, I can enable other families to have the practical help that Lydia’s family received.

My family had to travel 120 miles to hospital and having access to a bedroom with all linen provided, their own bathroom, use of kitchen facilities, all available with understanding CLIC Sargent house staff at hand, was just an unbelievable helpline – thank God for CLIC Sargent!
"Six months after Lydia’s diagnosis I discovered a lump in my breast. However, now fit and well I was absolutely determined to complete the trek. As an aging grandmother, I thought my doctor would veto my plans but to my delight he said 'age is only numbers – go for it!'”
Jean was amazing in her efforts to fundraise for this trek, raising in excess of £5,000, also helping to spread the word about CLIC Sargent and let people know more about the services we provide and work that we do.
Well done Jean!
